The Curriculum Department, headed by Dr. Earline Scott, is responsible for learning during and after the school day, Assessment, and most grants. The Curriculum Office ensures that the teachers are delivering content that is in alignment with the Illinois State Standards. This alignment is monitored by analyzing data from the tri-annual Edutest assessment, the online ISAT prep program, Study Island, and Curriculum Mapper, as well as prior ISAT results.
There are many Federal and State grants that bring much needed financial resources to our district. There are two basic types of grants. Formula grants are based on demographic and socio-economic factors in our student population, and include most of the NCLB consolidated grants more commonly called Title grants. These grants are generally geared towards academics, technology, and staff and school improvement. The competitive grants are usually larger monetary amounts, must be written to stringent specifications, and are awarded based on evaluation by state teams. Although the competitive grants are generally more difficult to secure, this year alone, Dr. Scott and team members from across the district secured almost 2 million dollars for Reading 1st and Enhancing Education Through Technology.
