PARCC

In 2010, the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) adopted the Common Core State Standards which are more rigorous learning standards for English language arts and mathematics. These new standards required a system that is designed to assess a student’s mastery in the areas of reading and mathematics. The Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers (PARCC) is the state assessment that replaced the Illinois Standards Achievement Test (ISAT).
The PARCC assessment is computer-based and requires students to analyze information and explain their answers. The PARCC test aligns college and career readiness expectations from kindergarten through grade 12 and measures if students have the academic knowledge and skills necessary to succeed after high school. The results of this assessment are utilized to provide support for students. Students in grades 3-8 take the PARCC assessment in the areas of English language arts and mathematics. More information about this assessment can be accessed at www.parcconline.org.
